MISS KANSAS COMES TO MANOR OF THE PLAINS

Mike Rajewski, executive director of the Presbyterian Manor, had an idea from when he was executive director at Sterling Presbyterian Manor in Sterling. Last year they had Miss Kansas speak at their annual donor volunteer banquet, and Mike was quite impressed with the results.

When Manor of the Plains first started planning our banquet, Mike suggested that we invite Miss Kansas to be our entertainment. To say the least, the management was a little nervous about the whole idea. For years we had bought gifts, had a barbeque and raffled off the prizes, which seemed to go over well.

After several weeks of contemplation, Mike contacted Miss Kansas and before we knew it, a date had been set: Tuesday, April 30.

Miss Kansas, Hanna Klaassen from Arkansas City, arrived around 5 p.m., signed autographs for the public and then went to the healthcare dining room. The residents were beyond thrilled.

“I have never seen so many beautiful smiles,” said Kurt Lampe, marketing director.

From there, Hannah headed to the banquet, where she was greeted with many more smiles and conversations. On the menu was lasagna, green beans and garlic bread with strawberry cheesecake. Lisa Flick, the dining services supervisor, did an outstanding job organizing the amazing feast.

Hannah first spoke about her experience, becoming Miss Kansas and the benefits that go with it. Then she focused on her platform, “Physical & Mental.”

A great evening was had by all!
