John Van Hook

Executive Director
John joined Manor of the Plains in October 2019. He has more than 30 years of experience as a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. In his most recent position, he served as the executive director of Trinity Manor in Dodge City since May 2014.

Wendi Barlow

Human Resource Director
Wendi worked her way through the nursing department before being named the human resource director in 2014. She previously was the health services director. When not at work, Wendi helps out at her Dad’s horse ranch and spends time with her granddaughter.

Tammy Thompson

Director of Nursing
Tammy was named health services director/director of nursing in January. She is no stranger to Manor of the Plains. She first worked at the community as a CNA, then a CMA while she was going through nursing school. She left for about nine years, but returned in 2016 as a part-time nurse. She has a nursing background in long-term care, home health and surgical services. A native of Bucklin, she had her husband James have two daughters.

Heather McDaniel

Assisted Living/Home Health Director
Heather joined the Manor of the Plains team in March 2020 and became the case manager/interim assisted living and home health director in April 2020. Before she joined the Manor of the Plains team, she worked as a surgical nurse, neurosurgical nurse. She began her career working in long-term care as a staff and travel CNA/CMA. She is currently attending Fort Hays State University pursuing a bachelor of science in nursing.

Clara Contreras

Life Enrichment Director
Clara joined the Manor of the Plains team in 2006 as a CNA and was named life enrichment director for health care in March 2020. She is a certified life enrichment director. She previously worked with a sporting company in California before moving to Kansas.

Claudia Avila-Elias

MDS Coordinator
Claudia joined the Manor of the Plains team in November 2019. She previously worked as a life skills instructor and a CNA. She served in the United States Army and achieved the rank of Sergeant (E5), serving in Germany and one tour in Iraq. She has an associate of science in nursing from Dodge City Community College and a bachelor’s degree in health care administration with a concentration in long-term care from the University of Phoenix. She is advance life support certified.

Dean Gemaehlich

Environmental Services Director
Dean joined Manor of the Plains in December 2019. Before joining our team, he worked for 20 years in a dual fuel utility and most recently in the construction industry. He is a native of Dodge City, Kan., and is working on an agricultural business degree from Dodge City Community College. He is a graduate of Leadership Dodge sponsored by the Dodge City Chamber of Commerce. He’s a member of the Knights of Columbus, Turkey Federation, Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited.

Joy Wiggins

Social Services Designee
Joy started at Manor of the Plains as activity director in January 2005. She had spent the previous 14 years in a similar position at Morton County Health Systems. Prior to that time, Joy was owner of a retail family shoe business. She earned her activity director/social service designee at Pratt Community College. Joy is accredited by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals.

Lisa Montoya

Assistant Activity Director
Lisa joined our team as activity director in October 2004. She worked the previous 10 years on the production line at Evans Products and helped train new employees in New York after the company was acquired by D’Addario & Co. Lisa attended Dodge City Community College and is activity director provisionally certified by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals. She is also credentialed as a certified nursing assistant, certified medication aide, social service designee, activity director and home health aide. She is a member of the Senior Olympic Committee. Away from work Lisa enjoys sewing, crocheting and gardening.

Lisa Flick

Dining Services Director
Lisa was named interim dining services director in December 2014. She has worked for Manor of the Plains since October 2010, staring out as a dining services aide. Before joining Manor of the Plains, she worked for 15 years as a cook for USD 240 in Tescott, Kansas, as a cook. She is a certified dietary manager, ServSafe certified, and has Gracious Dining training. When she’s not working, Lisa likes to spend time with her grandchildren.
