LOCAL SCOUTS WORK TOGETHER TO FIX GARDEN BEDS, EARN AWARDS

You may have noticed the garden project taking place on our campus. It all started last year. Dave Harmon, maintenance supervisor, knew Misty Cole from the Girls Scouts was working to get her Girl Scout Gold Award and needed a community service project. He told her about our raised garden beds and the work that needed done to them, including boards that were coming apart and needed replaced.

Misty came to the Manor of the Plains in late October 2018 to decide if this was something she could do, and the answer was, “Yes!” Since then, she has recruited Allen Richter, a Boy Scout, to redo the watering system as he works towards earning his Eagle Scout ranking. Together, they hope to have all the raised garden beds done in September 2019.

Misty kicked-off this project by raising money for the wood she will purchase. She had one rummage sale and is planning two more. We will keep posting updates so everyone can see the progress these two wonderful young adults are making. A special thank you to Lisa Montoya, assistant activity director, and the residents of Manor of the Plains for helping make this happen.
