Experience Manor of the Plains

Manor of the Plains opened in 1990. Developed through a partnership with the Sisters of St. Joseph and First Presbyterian Church, the campus is located on the former St. Mary of the Plains College campus. Manor of the Plains offers a continuum of senior living and services encompassing independent living and home health, assisted living, short-term rehabilitation, and health care with skilled nursing.

Accommodations range from studio apartments to one- and-two bedroom apartments with garage. Residents enjoy an array of amenities including restaurant-style dining, a computer center, hair salon, fitness center, library and community room. Independent Living residents may also take advantage of "pet-friendly" accommodations, covered entrances and raised garden beds.

Our 14-acre campus is located in the northern part of Dodge City, just west of St. Mary of the Plains Park and a few short blocks from Village Square Mall. With numerous retail, dining and other businesses nearby, our residents find it easy to get whatever goods or services they may want or need.

Our residents play a role in shaping the lifestyle at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains. They are represented by the elected members of our resident council. Its purpose is to provide a means for all residents to share ideas, concerns and suggestions with administration and department directors. The council underscores the residents' responsibility for their own well-being and upholds resident rights.

Since its founding in 1949, our parent company, Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, has grown to become one of the nation's top 20 largest non-profit senior living organizations serving more than 2,500 residents in 17 Kansas and Missouri communities.

History

According to "History of the First Presbyterian Church of Dodge City, KS.", in 1987 the Session felt that a retirement center was needed in Dodge City. In cooperation with Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, St. Mary's of the Plains College (Sisters of St. Joseph) and the community efforts were developed to plan such a center. An advisory board of people of different professions and churches worked to develop this possibility. A great campaign was launched after architects had presented possible blue prints for the construction of the Manor of the Plains on the campus of St. Mary's of the Plains College.

Ground breaking ceremonies were held on September 25, 1988. The Presbyterian Manor of the Plains was completed in 1990 and Rev. Thomas Church, the minister of the First Presbyterian Church, resigned as minister of the church and became the executive director of the Manor of the Plains."
